….No Black woman writer in this culture can write “too much” – bell hooks ⭐️ bell hooks appreciation post⭐️ Recently on FB I read some comments by a Black man on bell hooks that were very very negative, disparaging and offensive, he called her writing toxic man hating, destruction for the Black community. His views seemed so extreme and angry. He accused her of misandry. He said he didn’t believe in rape culture or the wage gap. He had a lot of hatred for Black Feminist Thought/Theory. I was going to do that thing were I replied to his comments and then decided not to get sucked into a weird back and forth with a stranger online. I decided to do this instead. For those interested in knowing about this prolific writer/professor/culture critic and her cannon of work which includes detailed analysis on race, gender, class – deconstructing what she refers to as the racist heteronormative capitalist patriarchy in a way that is accessible and clear, for me has been a case of – iron sharpening iron, she is not a cult leader in my eyes, she offers a sharpening of my mind and I appreciate it. ALL ABOUT LOVE is my absolute fave. #bellhooks #freeBlackwoman #swipeleft #blackwomenauthors #blackfeminism #freeblackwomenslibrary

It was a good spiritual book. Even though i’m not a big fan of self-help books somehow i felt that it was important for me to read it in this phase of my life. I enjoyed so many parts where it felt like bell hooks translated some thoughts that were in the back of my head in words which made me relate nearly about 60% with it but i would be lying if i say that i agreed with everything that she said. Quotes i loved: *”Remember, care is a dimension of love, but simply giving care does not mean we are loving” *”to truly love we must learn to mix various ingredients: care, affection, recognition, respect, commitment and truth as well as honest and open communication.” *”how different things might be if, rather saying “I think i am in love, ” we were saying “i’ve connected with someone in a way that makes me think that i’m on the way to knowing love.” or instead of saying “i am in love” we say ” i am loving” or “i will love.” our patterns arround romantic love are unlikely to change if we do not change our language.” *”the wounded child inside many males is a boy who, when he first spoke his truths, was silenced by parental sadism, by patriarchal world that did not want him to claim his true feelings. The wounded child inside many females, is a girl who was taught from early childhood that she must become something other than herself, deny her true feelings, in order to please others.” *”only love can heal the wounds of the past. However, the intensity of our woundedness often leads to a closing of the heart, making it impossible for us to give or receive the love that is given to us.” *”when we face pain in relationships our first response is often to sever bounds rather than to maintain commitment.” *”to know love we have to tell the truth to ourselves and to others, creating a false self to mask fears and insecurities has become so common that many of us forget who we are and what we feel underneath the pretense.” #allaboutlovenewvisions #bellhooks 4📚😍✔

Thank you to everyone who has been part of TIME’S UP over the past year. 💗 From my sisters in the film industry to the activists and campaigners around the world who have supported us, I’ve been so inspired by the way people have reached out to each other, shared experiences and advice, and organised together as part of this movement for change. 🌍 Gender equality can only become a reality if we harness the transformative power of solidarity across professions and across borders. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There’s still a long way to go, but the achievements so far make me optimistic for a fairer future. 2018 was just the beginning. 💪🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🎉 See link in bio for some reflections on the journey of Time’s Up that I shared with @cnn.
